Ho iniziato questo progetto più di trent’anni fa, nell’estate del 1991. La moglie di un amico era incinta di nove mesi e mi venne l’idea di fotografarli insieme come coppia, poi subito dopo il parto e infine lo stesso giorno ogni anno. Ora, incredibilmente, il progetto ha raggiunto il suo trentesimo anno. Il progetto, inizialmente incentrato sulla crescita di un bambino in un uomo, si sposta lentamente sul processo più sottile dell’invecchiamento e del passare del tempo.

Zed Nelson (Uganda, 1965) è noto per i suoi progetti a lungo termine che esplorano la società contemporanea. I began this project over thirty years ago, in the summer of 1991. The wife of a friend was nine months pregnant, and I had an idea to photograph them together as a couple, then soon after the birth, and then on the same day every year. Now amazingly the project has reached its thirtieth year. As time passes, what I find increasingly interesting are changes to the parents. The project - initially about a baby growing into a man – slowly shifts focus to the more subtle process of ageing and the passing of time.
