Negli ultimi anni Alexander Gronsky ha catturato paesaggi e scenari con un’ossessione in mente: documentare un mondo in costante ripetizione di se stesso, catturando anche il grottesco. Le questioni che esplora nel suo lavoro non riguardano principalmente la realtà post-sovietica, ma piuttosto l’universalità. In questa serie le immagini di rievocazioni militari pubbliche in Ucraina e Russia girate nel 2013-14 rappresentano un duro promemoria di come la finzione spesso sostituisca la realtà e in alcuni casi, la preveda.

Nato a Tallinn, in Estonia, nel 1980, Alexander Gronsky attualmente vive e lavora a Mosca, in Russia. La sua pratica fotografica si concentra sui paesaggi. Abbandonati e silenziosi, offrono una riflessione sull’impatto dell'ambiente sulle popolazioni locali e una riflessione sulla ripetizione e anticipazione dei desideri nelle nostre società.

For the last few years Alexander Gronsky has been capturing landscapes and scenarios with one obsession in mind: to document a world in constant repetition of itself, even capturing the grotesque. The issues he explore in his work are not concerned primarily with the post-soviet reality, but rather with universality. In this series the images of public military re-enactmens in Ukraine and Russia shot in 2013-14 stand as a harsh reminder of how fiction often stands in for reality, and in some cases previews it.

Abandoned and quiet, they offer a reflection on the impact of the environment on local populations as well as a reflection on the repetition and anticipation of desires in our societies.
