Il Premio The Portfolio Parade, curato da Erik Kessels — artista, curatore e narratore visivo olandese — si configura come una piattaforma dedicata alla valorizzazione dei talenti emergenti. Il progetto prende forma in un’installazione giocosa e stimolante composta da portfolio fotografici, che rompe con i formati espositivi tradizionali e invita i visitatori a esplorare la fotografia in modi nuovi e inaspettati, offrendo al contempo una riflessione sul linguaggio fotografico in continua evoluzione.

Erik Kessels è un artista, curatore e communication designer olandese, con un profondo interesse per l'arte e la fotografia. Dal 1996 è socio creativo dell'agenzia di comunicazione KesselsKramer. Kessels è noto per il suo uso sperimentale della cosiddetta “found photography” (fotografia di recupero): egli rielabora e ricontestualizza immagini preesistenti, conferendo nuovi significati a materiali che altrimenti passerebbero inosservati. Ha pubblicato oltre 100 libri basati su queste immagini “riappropriate” ed è autore dei bestseller internazionali Failed It! e Complete Amateur. Ha insegnato presso diverse accademie d'arte (Amsterdam, Milano, Toronto, Losanna, Düsseldorf). Kessels ha ideato e curato mostre quali Loving Your Pictures,, Mother Nature, 24HRS in Photos, Album Beauty e Unfinished Father. Attualmente sta lavorando a un progetto artistico europeo a lungo termine intitolato Europe Archive.
Nel 2010 ha ricevuto l’Amsterdam Prize for the Arts e nel 2016 è stato candidato al Deutsche Börse Photography Prize. Una sua retrospettiva è stata esposta a Torino, Düsseldorf e Budapest fino al 2022, e di recente ha esposto al SFMOMA. È stato definito “uno stregone visivo” dal Time Magazine e un “antropologo moderno” da Vogue Italia.
“The Portfolio Parade” Prize, curated by Dutch artist, curator, and visual storyteller Erik Kessels, is conceived as a platform dedicated to the promotion and advancement of emerging talents. The project takes shape as a playful and thought-provoking installation composed of photographic portfolios, challenging traditional exhibition formats and inviting visitors to explore photography in new and unexpected ways, while offering a reflection on its continuously evolving language.

Erik Kessels is a Dutch artist, curator and communication designer, with great interest in art and photography. Erik Kessels is since 1996 Creative Partner of communications agency KesselsKramer. Kessels is known for his experimental use of found photography. He re-appropriates and re-contextualises these images, creating new significance for materials that would otherwise be overlooked. He has published over 100 books of hi “re-appropriated”; images and has written the international bestseller Failed It! and Complete Amateur. He has taught at several Art Academies (Amsterdam, Milan, Toronto, Lausanne, Düsseldorf). Kessels made and curated exhibitions such as Loving Your Pictures, Mother Nature, 24HRS in Photos, Album Beauty and Unfinished Father. Currently he’s working on a long-term European art project called Europe Archive.
In 2010 Kessels was awarded with the Amsterdam Prize of the Arts, in 2016 nominated for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize. Until 2022 his mid-career retrospective is shown in Turin, Düsseldorf and Budapest and he exhibited recently in the SFMOMA. He was called “a visual sorcerer” by Time Magazine and a “Modern Anthropologist” by Voque (Italia).
