All’inizio del 2025, dopo aver completato il progetto documentario “Along the Dnipro”, lVautore ha cercato un nuovo modo per documentare la realtà della guerra della Russia contro l’Ucraina, nonostante le limitate possibilità di accesso al fronte. In collaborazione con FOTOVRAMCI, sono state inviate 25 fotocamere usa e getta a soldati ucraini dislocati su vari fronti, consentendo loro di immortalare la propria quotidianità e le proprie esperienze.
A ciascun partecipante è stato inoltre chiesto di restituire la fotocamera accompagnandola con una lettera manoscritta e un oggetto scelto personalmente. Nel loro insieme, queste fotografie, lettere e oggetti costituiscono un’intensa testimonianza di storie individuali, preservando per le generazioni future le esperienze, i sacrifici e i ricordi di chi difende la sovranità e l’indipendenza dell’Ucraina.
Sergey Melnitchenko (Ucraina, 1991) è un artista visivo la cui opera si colloca all'intersezione tra fotografia concettuale, messa in scena e documentaristica. Ha iniziato il suo percorso fotografico nel 2009 e, a meno di dieci anni di distanza, è diventato il primo fotografo ucraino a vincere il prestigioso premio Leica Oskar Barnack Award Newcomer (Berlino, 2017).
Nel 2018, all’età di 26 anni, ha fondato la MYPH School of Conceptual and Art Photography (Mykolaiv Young Photography), trasformatasi nel tempo in una piattaforma dinamica che comprende una scuola di fotografia, una comunità di artisti, una galleria, un’agenzia, una casa editrice, la rivista “525 by MYPH” e il MYPH Photography Prize.
In early 2025, after completing the documentary project Along the Dnipro, the author sought a new way to document the realities of Russia’s war against Ukraine despite limited access to the front lines. In collaboration with FOTOVRAMCI, 25 disposable film cameras were sent to Ukrainian soldiers across different fronts, allowing them to capture their own daily lives and experiences.
Each participant was also asked to return the camera with a handwritten letter and a personally chosen artifact. Together, these photographs, letters, and objects create a powerful record of individual stories, preserving the experiences, sacrifices, and memories of those defending Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence for future generations.
Sergey Melnitchenko (1991 Urkaine) is a visual artist whose work bridges the realms of conceptual, staged, and documentary photography. He began his journey in photography in 2009 and less than a decade later became the first Ukrainian photographer to win the prestigious Leica Oskar Barnack Award Newcomer (2017, Berlin).
In 2018, at the age of 26, he founded the MYPH School of Conceptual and Art Photography (Mykolaiv Young Photography), which has since grown into a dynamic platform comprising a photography school, artist community, gallery, agency, publishing house, the magazine “525 by MYPH”, and the MYPH Photography Prize.
