Antarctica – The white continent and its unexpected contrasts
Lemaire Channel è uno stretto dell’Antartide tra la penisola di Kiev nella terraferma di Graham Land e l’isola di Booth, vicino alla stazione antartica ucraina Akademik Vernadsky. L’immagine in mostra è stata scattata dal ghiacciaio durante la spedizione sulll’isola di Hovgaard nell’autunno antartico (3 marzo 2009), esperienza che nel fisico-fotografo Igor Gvozdovskyy ha rigenerato un nuovo contatto con la Natura e ricordato che l’Antartide, come la vita, “è un contrasto infinito di estremi continui e che al sorgere del sole tutto ricomincia”.
Igor Gvozdovskyy (Ucraina, 1975) è Fisico senior presso l’Istituto di Fisica dell’Accademia Nazionale delle Scienze a Kiev, Ucraina. Igor è stato attratto dalla fotografia fin dall’adolescenza, e nel silenzio dell’Antartide è stato in grado di perseguire ulteriormente questo interesse. Attualmente sta esplorando diversi rami della fotografia che includono l’ambiente, la storia e la macrofotografia.
Lemaire Channel is a strait of Antarctica between the Kiev Peninsula in the mainland’s Graham Land and Booth Island, near the Ukrainian Antarctic station Akademik Vernadsky. The exhibited photo was taken from the glacier during the expedition on Hovgaard Island in Antarctic autumn (3 March 2009), experience that in the physical-photographer Igor Gvozdovskyy has generated a new contact with Nature and reminded that Antarctica, like life, “it is a never ending contrast of continuous extremes, and that when the sun rises tomorrow everything will happen again”.
Igor Gvozdovskyy (Ukraine, 1975) is Senior Physicist at the Institute of Physics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kiev. Igor was drawn to photography during his adolescence, and while in the quiet silence of Antarctica was able to further pursue this interest. He is currently exploring different branches of photography that include the environment, history and macro photography.
