Jitter Period
Jitter Period è una passeggiata attraverso la visione creativa di Yorgos Lanthimos, un mondo in cui la sua fotografia racconta storie diverse da quelle dei suoi film. La mostra invita a un senso di vagabondaggio, consentendo agli spettatori di formulare la propria interpretazione dell’universo unico di Lanthimos.
La mostra, per la prima volta in Italia, riunisce opere tratte dai libri fotografici d’esordio di Lanthimos, Dear God, the Parthenon is still broken e I shall sing these songs beautifully, estendendone la natura onirica e aperta allo spazio fisico. Il titolo, Jitter Period, si riferisce alle pause irregolari e alle fluttuazioni di un segnale: momenti di interruzione che distorcono un flusso altrimenti continuo. È in questi momenti intermedi, catturati durante il processo di realizzazione di un film, che emergono le fotografie di Lanthimos.

Yorgos Lanthimos è nato ad Atene, in Grecia. Creativo versatile, oltre a dirigere video musicali e di danza, spot televisivi, cortometraggi e spettacoli teatrali, ha anche fotografato editoriali e campagne di moda. La sua svolta è arrivata con il film Dogtooth (2009), che ha ottenuto il Premio Un Certain Regard a Cannes e una nomination all’Oscar. The Lobster (2015) ha vinto il Premio della Giuria a Cannes e gli European Film Awards. Seguì La Favorita (2018), che è valso a Olivia Colman un Oscar. Il suo film Poor Things ha vinto il Leone d’Oro a Venezia e quattro Oscar. Dear God, the Parthenon is still broken, pubblicato da Void, è la prima monografia fotografica di Lanthimos, che ha anche pubblicato un secondo libro fotografico: I shall sing these songs beautifully (Mack).
“Jitter Period” is a stroll through Yorgos Lanthimos’ creative vision—a world where his photography tells different stories from those in his films. The exhibition invites a sense of wandering, allowing viewers to form their own interpretations of Lanthimos’ unique universe.
The exhibition, for the first time, brings together works from Lanthimos’ debut photobooks, ‘Dear God, the Parthenon is still broken’ (Void) and ‘i shall sing these songs beautifully’ (MACK), extending their dreamlike and open-ended nature into physical space. The title, “Jitter Period”, refers to the irregular pauses and fluctuations in a signal—moments of interruption that distort an otherwise continuous flow. It is in these in-between moments, taken while moving through the process of filmmaking, that Lanthimos’ photographs emerge.

Yorgos Lanthimos, was born in Athens, Greece. A versatile creative, in addition to directing dance and music videos, TV commercials, short films, and theatre plays, he has also photographed editorials and fashion campaigns. His breakthrough came with the film ‘Dogtooth’ (2009), earning a Un Certain Regard Prize at Cannes and an Oscar nomination. ‘The Lobster’ (2015) won a Jury Prize at Cannes and the European Film Awards. This was followed by ‘The Favourite’ (2018) which earned Olivia Colman an Oscar. His film, ‘Poor Things’, won Venice’s Golden Lion and four Oscars. ‘Dear God, the Parthenon is still broken’, published by Void is Lanthimos’ first photography monograph, having also published a second photography book: ‘i shall sing these songs beautifully’ (MACK).
