Costruire è una installazione in divenire, un corpo scultoreo che, nella propria evoluzione, allude alla progressiva urbanizzazione del paesaggio reale.

È una città anch’essa, con le sue architetture modulari che definiscono uno skyline rispetto al quale ogni relazione fisica o unità di misura è invertita e ribaltata; l’osservatore non soccombe alla grandiosità degli edifici bensì può muoversi dominando, con lo sguardo, l’intero spazio.

Gli edifici di questo grande ‘plastico’ scultoreo sono costituiti da linee e unità geometriche, elementari primari, monolitici, ricorrenti nella ricerca di Neri, dove la struttura visiva della composizione prevale rispetto alla materia e al colore. La trasfigurazione astratta e la riduzione formale degli elementi sottrae la contingenza e la storia dei luoghi alludendo ad alla bruta serialità e uniformità delle abitazioni.

Tuttavia l’installazione, realizzata con scatole di legno assemblate, materiali e scarti della produzione industriale, trova nella pittura un nuovo volto, armonioso e rassicurante, mostrando pienamente la propria finzione e raccontandosi come un gioco d’infanzia, un bricolage di volumi regolari in cui tutto trova nuovo ordine, funzione, luogo.

Sin dagli esordi negli anni ’80, la ricerca di Marco Neri è marcatamente improntata al recupero della pittura. Partecipa a numerose esposizioni in Italia e all’estero, tra le quali “Intercity Uno”, Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Venezia, 1990; “Martiri e Santi”, Galleria L’Attico, Roma, 1996; “Pittura”, Castello di Rivara di Torino, 1997; “Figuration”, Rupertinum Museum, Salisburgo e Museion, Bolzano, 2000; “Futurama”, Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea L. Pecci, Prato, 2000; “Premio Michetti”, Museo F.P. Michetti, Francavilla, 2000.

“Costruire” [To build] is an art installation in progress, a sculptural shape alluding, in its evolution, to the increasing urbanization of the real landscape.

It is a city, with its modular architectures drawing a skyline where every physical relation or unit of measure is inverted and overturned; the observer does not succumb to the grandeur of the buildings but can move, dominating the whole space with his own eyes.

The buildings of this large sculptural ‘plastico’ are characterized by primary lines, monolithic volumes and geometric units, recurrent in Neri’s research, where the visual structure of the composition prevails over matter and color. The abstract transfiguration and the formal reduction of the elements subtract contingency and history from the places, referring to the brutal serialization and homologation of residential buildings.

However the art installation, realized with assembled wooden boxes, materials and scraps of industrial production, finds with painting a new, harmonious and reassuring aspect, fully showing the fictional and revealing itself as a childhood game, a DIY of regular volumes where everything finds new order, function, place.
