Culture che s’incontrano, tradizioni che si tramandano e forme che mutano. Un passato difficile si trasforma in storie di rinascita attraverso la riscoperta della propria femminilità. È la babele della bellezza del mondo moderno. Iran, Siria, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Costa d’Avorio, Camerun, Burkina Faso, Somalia, Eritrea e Nigeria sono i paesi di origine delle donne coinvolte. Tutte richiedenti asilo. Madri, figlie, mogli. Donne che hanno sfidato il mare e sono arrivate sulla nostra terra portando con sé non solo gli orrori che le hanno costrette a lasciare i loro Paesi d'origine e i loro figli, ma anche la loro cultura. Da qui nasce il progetto fotografico di Nicolò Tauro per PhEST su idea della urban spa Beautique di Bari e Mila Uffici Stampa in collaborazione con la cooperativa Auxilium che gestisce il Cara di Palese e la rete Sprar di Bitonto.

Nicolò Tauro, monopolitano, classe 1980, si è avvicinato alla fotografia da autodidatta. Ha partecipato ad alcuni workshop e una masterclass sull’editing per perfezionare la sua tecnica. Assistente per alcuni fotografi di fama internazionale in trasferta in Puglia per i propri lavori, si è specializzato in ritrattistica. Nel suo portfolio rientra MoNobilis, lavoro sui cittadini illustri di Monopoli. Da circa un anno sta portando avanti un progetto fotografico a lungo termine che ritrae le donne del quartiere Tamburi di Taranto.

Cultures that meet, traditions that are passed on and shapes that change. A difficult past is transformed into stories of rebirth through the discovery of one’s own femininity. The ‘babel’ of beauty of our modern world. Iran, Syria, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Somalia, Eritrea and Nigeria are the homelands of the participating women. All of them are asylum-seekers and hosted by Cara of Bari or Sprar from Bitonto. Mothers, daughters, wives. Women that have challenged the sea and have arrived on our land carrying with them not only the horrors that forced them to leave their homes and sons, but also their culture.

This is how the photo project by Nicolò Tauro is born, from an idea of the Urban Spa Beautique in Bari and Mila Uffici Stampa in collaboration with the cooperative Auxilium which manages Cara in Palese and Sprar in Bitonto.

Nicolò Tauro, born in Monopoli in 1980, taught himself photography. He attended workshops and a masterclass on editing to refine his technique. He assisted various international photographers working in Puglia. Specialized in portraiture, he produced “MoNobilis”, on famous citizens of Monopoli. A year ago he began a work in progress on the women of the Tamburi neighborhood in Taranto.
