PhEST è fotografia, arte, musica, cinema, contaminazioni dal Mediterraneo. Il festival nasce nel 2016 dalla necessità di provare a restituire una voce propria alle mille identità che compongono il “mare in mezzo alle terre”, e ridefinire un immaginario proprio e nuovo. L’area geografica di interesse, mai davvero restrittiva e sempre pronta a modificarsi, a estendersi, a focalizzarsi, coincide con la naturale panoramica di quello sguardo da qui, da Monopoli, dalla Puglia: il Mediterraneo, i Balcani, il Medio Oriente, l’Africa e oltre.
Sin dal primo anno PhEST ha avviato un progetto permanente che nel corso degli anni è diventato un archivio su e per il territorio pugliese. Ogni anno, dal 2016, vengono invitati artisti visivi a lavorare ad un tema specifico con l’obiettivo di ripensare costantemente l’immaginario visuale del territorio, lasciando una traccia continua del presente.
Da questi commissionati è nato un atlante vivo e contemporaneo del territorio che, in occasione dei dieci anni del festival, viene presentato in mostre diffuse per la città e diventa un libro edito da PhEST.

PhEST is photography, art, music, cinema, and fusions from the Mediterranean. The festival was born in 2016 from the need to give a voice to the myriad identities that make up the ”sea amidst the lands” and redefine a new, unique imagery. The geographical scope of interest, never truly restrictive and always ready to change, expand, and focus, coincides with the natural panorama of that gaze from here, from Monopoli, from Apulia: the Mediterranean, the Balkans, the Middle East, Africa, and beyond.
Since its inception, PhEST has initiated a long-term project to create a visual archive of and for Apulia. Each year, since 2016, visual artists have been invited to work on a specific theme as a way of continuously rethinking the visual imagery of the territory and offering a constant trace of the present.
Thanks to these assignments, a lively contemporary atlas of the territory has been created and, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the festival, it is being exhibited throughout the city and becomes a book published by PhEST.
