La fotografia di Martin Parr rappresenta perfettamente il concetto di “capsula nello spazio”, quell’archivio visivo del nostro tempo che vorremmo lanciare nello spazio, ispirati dal tema di quest’anno: This Is Us.

Il fotografo Magnum ha una capacità unica di raccontare l’essere umano nelle sue contraddizioni e nei suoi sogni, offrendo un’immagine sorprendente, profonda e divertente allo stesso tempo. Le 50 fotografie in mostra ci conducono attraverso i cambiamenti epocali vissuti negli ultimi decenni come esseri sociali, soprattutto nelle attività ricreative. Una sezione speciale in bianco e nero, ci riporta indietro di qualche decennio nella sua Inghilterra natía.

Con oltre 100 libri pubblicati e 30 da lui curati, la sua eredità fotografica è già ben consolidata. Parr è anche curatore ed editore. Ha curato due festival di fotografia, Arles nel 2004 e la Biennale di Brighton nel 2010. Recentemente ha curato la mostra Strange and Familiar al Barbican. Parr è membro di Magnum dal 1994 e ne è stato presidente dal 2013 al 2017. Nel 2013 è stato nominato professore di fotografia presso l’Università dell’Ulster. Il lavoro di Parr è stato collezionato da molti importanti musei, tra cui la Tate, il Pompidou e il Museum of Modern Art di New York. Nel 2017 Parr ha istituito la Martin Parr Foundation. Nel 2019, la National Portrait Gallery di Londra ha ospitato una grande mostra di Parr intitolata Only Human.

The Magnum photographer has a unique ability to tell the story of humans with their contradictions and dreams, offering a surprising, profound, and fun image at the same time. The 50 photographs on display lead us through the epochal changes experienced in recent decades as social beings, especially in recreational activities. A special section in black and white takes us back a few decades to his native England.

 

 

​With over 100 published books and 30 edited by him, his photographic legacy is already well established. Parr is also a curator and editor. He has curated two photography festivals, Arles in 2004 and the Brighton Biennial in 2010. Most recently, he curated the Strange and Familiar exhibition at the Barbican. Parr has been a member of Magnum since 1994 and was its President from 2013 to 2017. In 2013, he was appointed Professor of Photography at the University of Ulster. Parr’s work has been collected by many major museums, including the Tate, the Pompidou and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Parr established the Martin Parr Foundation in 2017. In 2019, the National Portrait Gallery in London hosted a major exhibition of Parr’s work entitled “Only Human”
