STATE OF IDENTITY
Nella serie State of Identity (stato di identità) Milan Gies ritrae chi è alla ricerca della propria identità di genere e sta attraversando una fase di transizione fisica. In cerca di una risposta, l’artista registra in maniera rispettosa dubbi e incertezze di questi giovani che si espongono letteralmente e metaforicamente per la prima volta. Nel farlo, li rimuove dalla loro vita quotidiana e li fotografa in un ambiente monocromatico. Essere più vicini di così alla loro essenza è difficilmente possibile.
Milan Gies (1977, Olanda) lavora come fotografo e insegnante presso l’Accademia della Foto. Vive e lavora ad Amsterdam. Il lavoro di Milan Gies consiste principalmente di studi ritrattistici e studi scultorei. È affascinato dal “corpo narrativo”, dal modo in cui le esperienze, il dolore e la complessità lasciano il segno.
In the series “State of Identity” Milan Gies portrays those who are in search of their gender identity and are in the process of physical transition.
Seeking an answer the artist registers in a respectful manner doubts and uncertainties of these young people who literally and figuratively expose themselves for the first time. In doing so he removes them from their daily lives and photographs them in a monochrome setting. Closer to the source is hardly possible.
Milan Gies (1977, Holland) works as a photographer and also as a teacher at the Photo Academy. He lives and works in Amsterdam.
The work of Milan Gies mainly consists of portrait studies and sculptural studies. He is fascinated by “the narrative body”, the way in which experiences, pain and complexity leave their mark.
