Durante la settimana di lavoro, Sabbagh ha fotografato gli adolescenti locali e non che frequentano la zona vicino allo skatepark di Porta Vecchia. I giovani sono stati ritratti con il mare sullo sfondo e, nonostante il lavoro sia stato eseguito sul territorio, trascendono il luogo e lo spazio: rispondono ad una necessità di essere ‘individui’, senza pregiudizi e omologazione, come invece viene suggerito dal simbolo consumistico diffuso.
Il lavoro, Corpus Fugit, sarà in mostra al Porto Vecchio di Monopoli.
Mustafa Sabbagh (Amman, Giordania, 1961) vive e lavora in Italia. Italo-palestinese, allevato tra l’Europa e il Medio Oriente, il suo l’imprinting è cosmopolita, la sua attitudine è nomade.
Già assistente di Richard Avedon e docente al Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design di Londra, dopo una brillante carriera come fotografo di moda riconosciuto dai magazines più prestigiosi del mondo, a partire dal 2012 Sabbagh concentra la sua ricerca nell’arte contemporanea per mezzo della fotografia e della video-arte, attraverso una sorta di contro-canone estetico dove il punctum è la pelle - diario dell’unicità individuale.
During the working week, Sabbagh photographed the local and non-local teenagers who frequent the area near the Porta Vecchia skatepark. The young people were portrayed with the sea in the background and, despite the work being carried out on the territory, they transcend place and space: they respond to a need to be ‘individuals’, without prejudice and homologation, as is instead suggested by the widespread consumerist symbolism.
The work, “Corpus Fugit”, will be on display at Porto Vecchio in Monopoli.
Mustafa Sabbagh (Amman, Jordan, 1961). Italo-palestinian, raised between Europe and Middle East, his imprinting is cosmopolitan, while his attitude is nomadic.
Former assistant of Richard Avedon, and teacher at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, after a successful career as a fashion photographer recognized by the most prestigious magazines of the world, starting from 2012 Sabbagh focuses his research towards contemporary art through the mediums of photography and video-art by a kind of aesthetic counter- canon in which punctum is the skin - diary of individual’s uniqueness.

ONORE AL NERO
La serie di scatti intitolata Onore al Nero vuole superare il simbolismo negativo solitamente associato a questo colore generato dalla fusione dell’intero spettro che assorbe ogni frequenza luminosa. Il nero, sublimato, diventa quindi emblema dell’accoglienza e del perdono del peccato originale che tutti gli esseri umani condividono.
Le immagini, in perfetto equilibrio tra realtà e finzione, sono un inno all'imperfezione e alle ossessioni che l’arte fa fiorire amplificandole sotto forma di domande universal.
The series of shots entitled “Onore al nero” wants to overcome the negative symbolism usually associated with this color generated by the fusion of the entire spectrum that absorbs every light frequency. Black, thus sublimated, becomes the symbol of acceptance and forgiveness of the original sin that all human beings share.
The images, in perfect balance between reality and fiction, are a hymn to imperfection and obsessions that art makes flourish by amplifying them in the form of universal questions.
