In questo video Simon Norfolk rivela come ha mappato lo scioglimento del ghiacciaio Lewis sul Monte Kenya usando il fuoco. Basandosi su vecchie mappe, moderni dati GPS e rilievi cartografici di riviste specializzate, ha ricreato la storia del ritiro del ghiacciaio. Fotografare lo spessore del tempo, cercando di aggirare la “stratificazione”, è qualcosa che il fotografo sta cercando di fare da molti anni ormai.
Simon Norfolk (Nigeria, 1963) è un fotografo paesaggista, il cui lavoro, da oltre vent’anni, è incentrato su un’indagine e un’estensione del significato delle parole “campo di battaglia” in tutte le sue forme. Ha fotografato alcune delle peggiori zone di guerra e di crisi dei rifugiati nel mondo, ma anche soggetti come i supercomputer utilizzati per progettare sistemi militari o per il lancio di missili nucleari.
With this video, Simon Norfolk shows us how he mapped the melting away of the Lewis Glacier on Mt. Kenya using fire. Relying on old maps, modern GPS data and mapping surveys from peer-reviewed journals, he has recreated the history of the glacier’s retreat. Photographing time’s thickness, trying to trick out its “layeredness” is something that Norfolk has been trying to do for many years now.
Simon Norfolk (Nigeria, 1963) is a landscape photographer whose work over twenty years has been themed around a probing and stretching of the meaning of the word ‘battlefield’ in all its forms. He has photographed in some of the world’s worst war-zones and refugee crises, but also supercomputers used to design military systems or the test-launching of nuclear missiles.
